A Mouse is a small device that belongs to the Hardware of Computer.
The user can control the cursor arrow on the Display of the Computer by sliding it across the desk surface. The Mouse is a widely used Computer tool because we can easily maintain the computer with it, but without it, it isn’t very easy.

Do you know why it is called a mouse? Because it is small in size like a real mouse. A Mice has two buttons, one is called the Left button and One is called the Right button, and has a scroll wheel, The mice are used for controlling approximately 80% of the Computer Screen, and the other 20% of control is the Keyboard.
History:
In 1964 a man Douglas Engelbart who is known as a computer scientist at Stanford Research Institute invented the mouse of the computer for the first time in history.
This First Model of the mice was made of a wooden box in such a way that there were two wheels under this box for scrolling and two buttons on the top of it for controlling and connected with the computer by a wire.
The mouse was not used widely before the 1980s, because people who had computers were keyboard-friendly, But in the 1980s Apple Computer introduced its Macintosh computer which came with the mouse as its standard input device. This was the first computer to use GUI, and the mouse was necessary for its navigation.
Features:
The Mice have a wide range of features and capabilities, including the following which I will tell you below.
- Buttons of mice. Usually, the mice have two buttons, Left and right but some unique type of mice can have more than two buttons. Its buttons are used for different functions like clicking on objects on the screen, scrolling the text, or opening apps and menus.
- Scroll wheel of mice. This wheel is located between the Left and Right buttons of mice. It is used only for scrolling up and down for text or Images.
- Laser sensors of mice are used to track the movement of the mice on the screen. Laser sensors give more accurate results than optical sensors, but they can be more expensive than optical sensors.
- Wireless connectivity of mice happens when we use radio waves to communicate with our computer.
Types of mice:
There are only two main types of mice, one is wired which will connect to our computer by using a wire and the Second one is wireless which will be connected to our computer by using radio waves instead of wire.
The wired mice are cheap and reliable than the wireless mice but it can be difficult to use with laptop and other portable devices in many situations.
The wireless mice are more convenient than the wired ones, but they can be expensive and may have a shorter battery life.
- Trackball mouse is a mouse that have a ball located on its top. The users move this ball with their hand to control the movement of cursor on the screen.
- A touchpad mouse is a mouse that has a flat surface, that is sensitive to touch, A user can control the movement of cursor on the screen by dragging its finger across the touchpad. This mouse is usually used in laptops and also fixed in them.
- A 3D mouse is a type of mouse that has a sensor, that allows the user to handle the screen by tracking his hand movements in three dimensions.
Pros of using a mouse:
- Mice has accuracy. Mice give more accurate results than the other input devices, like keyboards etc for some types of tasks such as opening or tapping on the small objects or selecting the texts.
- Speed of mice. Mice has more speed of tapping, selecting or opening than other input devices. It also can navigate the GUI faster than others.
- Comfort of using mice. It is more comfortable to use than the other input devices.
